From now until the middle of 2019, the Parliament of the Kingdom of Cambodia will chair the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) after Vietnam. In the afternoon of April 25, 2018, Parliament of Vietnam transferred the APPF's chair to the Cambodian Parliament at the National Assembly Palace.

During the official and friendly visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from 25 to 26 April 2018, Mrs. Tòng Thị Phóng, Deputy Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Vietnam, the high representative of Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, the Chairwoman of National Assembly of Vietnam and head of the 26th APPF, has entrusted the APPF’s flag to Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN, President of the Cambodian National Assembly as a symbol of transferring the APPF’s presidency to the Cambodian parliament of the new mandate.

The APPF presidency hand-over ceremony has been formally held in the National Assembly Palace and attended by the Japanese ambassador to Cambodia as a witness in this event.

Kindly be informed that the founding charter of the APPF is the Tokyo Declaration, a document signed by 59 parliamentarians from fifteen nations, which sets up the basic structure of the organization. The Parliament of the Kingdom of Cambodia became a full member of the APPF in 1995. Currently, APPF has 27 member countries.

Taking the presidency of APPF, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei HENG SAMRIN stressed that the National Assembly of Cambodia was very honored to receive trust from the APPF country members, who has trusted the Cambodian Parliament in leading this important forum after Vietnam.

With the pride of confidence from the APPF country members, the Kingdom of Cambodia is pleased to take this important role and pledge to continue working in order to further improve the effectiveness of the APPF and its prestige as a contribution to the international community in maintaining peace and stability.

Mrs. Tòng Thị Phóng has a strong belief that the Cambodian parliament will continue to achieve a fruitful success for the next APPF based on experience and ability that Cambodian parliament has gone through and achieved in other meetings so far. Please be informed that the Cambodian parliament as president of APPF for this mandate 27th will be organized in early 2019 in the land of Angkor, Siem Reap province of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Mrs. Tòng Thị Phóng stressed that the Vietnamese parliament is always ready to share the experience with Cambodian parliament in organizing this forum in order to achieve fruitful outcome.
