H.E. Dr. Nguon Nhel Chaired a Meeting to Review the Outcome of Work in Preparation for the 27th Annual Meeting of APPF in 2019

In the afternoon of 19 June 2018, at the National Assembly Palace, H.E. Dr. Nguol Nhel, Second-Vice President of the National Assembly and Chairman of Preparatory Committee for the 27th Annual Meeting of APPF to be hosted by Cambodian Parliament early in 2019.

Having carefully listened to the reports made by each working group, H.E. Chheang Vun, Chairman of the Commission on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Information and Media of the National Assembly and Vice-Chairman of Preparatory Committee for the 27th Annual Meeting of APPF, reported to the meeting about the preparing process that has been done so far.

In addition, the Cambodian Parliament in charge of Women's Parliamentarians, Politics and Security, Economy and Trade, Regional Cooperation and the Future Work of APPF, has already researched and selected topics for each of its respective matters for decision to be put into the 27th session of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum.

Cambodian Parliament will host the upcoming 27th Annual Meeting of APPF at Angkor, Siem Reap province on 14-17 June 2019 under the theme “Strengthening Parliamentary Partnership for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development”. Following this theme, there are many topics following to its matters such Women Parliamentarians matters, Politics and Security matters, Economy and Trade, Regional Cooperation and Future Work of APPF.

The Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) was established in Tokyo, Japan in 1993. The Cambodian Parliament has become a full pledge member of APPF in 1995. Currently, there are 27 APPF member countries. This forum is conducted annually basis which member countries rotate each other to host the meeting. Last year, Vietnamese Parliament hosted the 26th Annual Meeting of APPF.

In the preparation, Cambodian Parliament has set up subcommittee in charge of documentation, security, information and so on. There is also a national APPF secretariat led by H.E. Leng PengLong, Secretary General of the National Assembly.

In this review meeting, H.E. Dr. Nguon Nhel has appealed and urged MPs, a members of the Commission, and all staff officials in the Secretariat to focus on the work in order to raise the prestige of Cambodian Parliament and the whole country toward success as any other parliamentary forums that Cambodian Parliament has achieved so far.
